Why it's collectible
Hawaii WWII
WWII overprint so captured notes could be voided.
MoreLess
Hawaii notes were an emergency issue after the attack on Pearl Harbor. They carry a brown seal and the word HAWAII overprinted on both sides. If the islands had been occupied, the United States could void the notes so captured money would not be spent.
They were issued for Hawaii and were gathered up after the war. Most were destroyed. A Hawaii note is logged for that overprint. A star on a Hawaii note is the replacement mark on top of the wartime issue.
